TODAY'S YOUTHS: ARCHITECTS OF FUTURE OR SLAVES TO SOCIAL MEDIA?

Today’s youth are experiencing an alarming level of hedonism. Idleness, insensitivity, increasing brutality, excessive and meaningless TV serials, violent and obscene films, hours spent watching cricket matches, the lure of fast food and parties, bad company, and the reckless spending of money on online games for instant wealth—all these factors are severely affecting the mental and physical health of young people today. Families and society are suffering greatly. A reckless attitude is on the rise. The number of old-age homes is increasing. Divisive and irrational ideologies are taking deep root. This poisonous vine is flourishing rapidly.

Watching meaningless, time-pass, and tasteless posts and reels on social media, endless scrolling through mobile phones at night, the vanishing of communication within families, neglect of physical exercise and reading, dancing to ear-piercing Dolby music, indulging in gossip, hatred, falling prey to temptations, and growing addiction—this disturbing picture raises serious concern. The future is becoming increasingly bleak. Today’s youth are like boats lost in a vast ocean, being battered by waves, with no clear chance of reaching the shore.

Social media today seems to have taken over your mind, brain, heart, and entire life. It has snatched the books from your hands. There are no thoughts in your head—only garbage. WhatsApp has become the university for today’s youth. Fake advertisements are flooding in. I constantly wonder—are today’s youth really the architects of the future or just slaves to social media?

Once, youth would rise up in fierce protest against injustice, atrocities, and oppression. Today, however, they squirm like spineless parasites. A spirit of slavery is visible. For cheap popularity and fame, they are willing to do anything.

In these confusing times, it is more important than ever to guide youth in the right direction and inspire them. For this, schools, libraries, and gyms must be established in every village. Efforts must be made to preserve the culture of reading. Value-based education is the need of the hour. If we are to nurture a generation capable of character, then education must be firmly rooted in life values as well.

To build a knowledge-based society, we must promote skill development programs, lecture series, intellectual discussions, and social dialogue. A person doesn’t become great by dancing—but by reading, understanding, and thinking.

Rather than looking up to fake ‘heroes’ from films, we should seek inspiration from real historical icons—Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s foresight, military strategy, administration, and planning; Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s social revolution; Sane Guruji’s philosophy of love; Mahatma Phule’s contribution to women’s education; the bravery of Rani Laxmibai; and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj’s defense of Swarajya and religion.

From great saints like Dnyaneshwar and Tukaram, we can learn the importance of peace, tolerance, kindness, self-reliance, simplicity, and the dignity of labor. These qualities can enrich our lives.

Our country has been the land of saints, thinkers, and warriors—a nation that the world admires. But today, it has become nearly impossible to find elders whose feet we can bow down to for blessings.

In short, if we want to bring today’s youth back on the right track, their awakening, enlightenment, and counseling are absolutely essential. The mind, body, and intellect of a directionless and aimless youth must be strengthened. In my sincere opinion, there is no more effective solution than value-based education. It is imperative that society, schools, colleges, and all wise and sensible individuals reflect on this issue and take the right steps—otherwise, destruction is inevitable.
