William Shakespeare, widely regarded as one of the greatest playwrights in history, was born on 23rd April in Stratford-upon-Avon, England, in 1564. He is often referred to as "the Bard of Avon"  or simply the Bard. Shakespeare's works, encompassing plays, poems, and sonnets, have had an immeasurable impact on literature, theater, and the English language.

Shakespeare wrote 37 plays, 2 Long poems and 154 sonnets. His plays encompassed a wide range of genres, including tragedies, comedies, tragi-comedy and histories, and they continue to be performed and studied worldwide.

Shakespeare's profound understanding of human nature, his masterful use of language, and his ability to craft intricate plots have made his works timeless and imperishable. His contributions to the English language cannot be measured in words, as he coined countless words and phrases that are still in use today. Best dialogues of Shakespearean heroes are popular even today. Countless articles and research papers are published every day.

Despite his enduring legacy, much of Shakespeare's life remains shrouded in mystery. Little is known about his personal life. Anne Hathaway was his wife who was senior to him by 8 years. It is said that his married life was not so happy. And there is an ongoing debate about the authorship of his works. One of his critics said, "Shakespeare is a crow who is beautified by wearing different colourful feathers." Nevertheless, his works continue to be celebrated for their artistic brilliance and their profound insights into the human condition. William Shakespeare's impact on literature and culture is immeasurable, and his plays and poems are a testament to his enduring genius.

The British will say with the great sense of pride that we will give up our kingdom but we would never give up our beloved Shakespeare as he has given incalculable and immeasurable intellectual wealth. Truly, he shines like the sun in the galaxy of the world's best writers and poets.

As long as the sun shines, trees grow, rivers flow, books are read, Shakespeare will be read. Shakespeare did not secure any degree but in today's world none will secure a degree in the subject of English without studying William Shakespeare.
